Yokohama area, located 30 km south of Tokyo, is the largest city within Kanagawa-prefecture. For the past 150 years since the opening of Yokohama Port in 1859, Yokohama has continuously developed as a cosmopolitan city.
As a major convention host city, Yokohama is well equipped with convention facilities, hotels, and restaurants. It is conveniently located with easy access to central Tokyo as well as to major transportation hubs. The newly opened Tokyo International Airport (a.k.a. Haneda Airport) is only 30 minutes away by a direct limousine bus, and 90 minutes by rail to Narita International Airport.
The hills of Yamate in Yokohama City has historically been a foreign settlement, the legacy of which remains in old western buildings preserved to this day, and many foreigners still residing in the high-end residential district. The coastal town of Minatomirai, selected in the top 100 scenic cities in Japan, is also home to luxury high-rise condominiums popular among foreigners.
Yokohama receives many visitors due to its proximity to some of Japan's cultural heritages: the Sankei Garden, a traditional landscape garden; Kamakura, the old Capital, less than 30 minutes away; and the hot spring district of Hakone, located 90 minutes south, perfect distance for a short trip. The largest Chinatown in Japan consisting of 500 shops and eateries is another buzz factor for Yokohama.
